2012

  • committed to pay half the rent through six months ($5400) for a Copiague, LI family with four young children under 6, whose house burned down.
  • purchased labradoodle therapy dog and training sessions for a 12 year-old autistic boy from Waldwick, NJ who also suffers from seizure disorder. Total cost of $4,250 was offset by a generous $1000 donation from an annoymous donor who wished to contribute to this recipient's needs.

2011

  • paid four months rent in arrears- $7,200 - for a Copiague, LI family with four small children whose house burned down last December.
  • A gift card for Microsoft XBox and educational software in the amount of $750 from the IWL's Lily Amato Fund, was presented to a 7 yr old boy with leukemia from Holtsville, NY.
  • Sent $950 to the Sunday Program at KISS Mid-Island Y JCC for an 11 yr. old Northport boy with multiple special needs.
  • purchased special needs socks ($168) to cover the leg braces of an 11 year-old Staten Island boy with multiple disabilities. Also sent a gift certificate for $300 from Costco for Depends for this boy, who is incontinent.
  • purchased a $2000 special needs Swify Stroller with belt, tray, harness, ankle supports and basket for a 6 and a half year old boy with Cerebral Palsy from Oceanside, NY
  • Purchased a laptop and special needs bike, totaling $834, for a 10-year old Ramsey, NJ girl with Cerebral Palsy
  • Adopted for Easter 3 brothers from Wantagh, LI, 6, 11 and 13, whose police officer father was struck by a truck and killed on the L.I.E. The League sent them a Easter Basket from Dylan's Candy and $500 gift certificate to Modell's.
  • Sent a 12 year-old Lindenhurst, NY boy with Asperger's Syndrome, to Hofstra Special Needs Summer Camp for two weeks at a cost of $1600.
  • Contributed $4,405 toward the purchase of a special positioning chair for a 12 year old Flushing, NY girl with a rare metabolic disorder.
  • Adopted for Christmas a mother and 15 year-old daughter from Tom's River, NJ, whose husband and father, a Ground Zero volunteer and recent victim, by providing two $500 gift certificates to Target and ShopRite.
  • Adopted for Christmas, 3 yr. old twin brothers from Staten Island, NY (one of whom is being treated for brain cancer) by presenting a basket and Toys R Us and The Gap gift cards in the amount of $250 each.
  • Adopted for Christmas a family with 4 children under 4 yrs. old whose house burned down in Copiague, NY. To replace some of their belongings, the League gave the family gift cards for $1000 each from Babys R Us and Target.
  • Contributed $3,000 toward the construction of a wheelchair lift enclosure for an 8 yr.old girl from Staten Island, NY afflicted with Cerebral Palsy.
  • Paid outstanding bill of $542 for services rendered to a 6 yr.old girl from Bayside, NY who suffers from Down Syndrome.

2010

  • gave a $4900 scholarshp for one semeter at The New School - Mannes Preparatory Division, for a 9 year old autistic girl from Rochelle Park, NJ
  • Gave a Special Needs grant in the amount of $5000 to the AHRC's Camp Loyaltown in Plainview, NY for recipients of Italian descent.
  • Sent a 2 year old autistic boy from Patterson, NJ for an 11 week session at Shooting Stars Gymnastics in Wyckoff, NJ - costing $458.50.
  • Donated $2500 toward dog-training services for a 17 year old brain-injury victim from Brooklyn at East Coast Assistance Dogs, Inc. of Torrington, CT.
  • Sent $1545 to Association for Help of Retarded Children's Camp Loyaltown, for a 9 yr old Levittown, L.I. boy with Autism.
  • Purchased a $1000 gift certificate to ShopRite for a family with four children the IWL adopted at Easter, whose father was electrocuted.
  • Christmas Adoptees, two brothers, 6 and 1, from New Jersey, who have a genetic brain disorder: gave $1100 in gift certificates to Toys R Us, B & N, Disney Store, The Gap, Best Buy and a Wii for rehab.
  • Purchased $500 gift certificate to Wild By Nature health food store for a Long Island family with three autistic sons who suffer from food allergies. Paid $525 for occupational therapy for one 6-year old son.

2009

  • $7,500 for physical therapy to a 47 year old bed-ridden male, who has to be cared for like a child.
  • 8 Special Needs Grants to: Helping Hands Behavioral Outreach, Old Bethpage, NY - $15,000 Assn. for Children with Down Syndrome, Plainview, NY - $15,000 Rocking Horse Rehab, W. Orange, NJ - 15,000 ACLD Kramer Learning Center, Bayshore, NY - $8,000 Cooley's Anemia Foundation, NY, NY - 8,000 Children's Skin Disease Foundation, Walnut Creek, CA -$8,000
 pecial Strides Therapeutic Riding Ctr., Monroe Township, NJ -$8,000 Angela's House, E. Moriches/Smithtown, NY $8,000.
  • Purchased a $1324.94 bedroom set which the family had to cancel due to financial hardship for a 2 ½ yr. old girl from Mastic, LI, suffering from a rare form of liver cancer.
  • Donated two bicycles with toddler seats, helmets and a bike rack costing $1412 were generously donated by a single member of the League for brother and sister: 2 ½ year old boy and 6 year old girl from Hauppauge, who suffer from a rare neurodegenerative disease.
  • Contributed $4000 toward the purchase of a $16,000 specially-extended van for the three adult children of a Kings Park, LI family who are all wheelchair bound.
  • Donated $1445 for finger therapy sessions and $535 for orthopedic treatment for a 6 yr. old girl from Toms River, NJ who suffers fromPrader-Willi Syndrome.
  • Custom Freedom Bicycle, $4203 and special chair, $284 for a 7 ½ yr. old girl from Staten Island with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy.
  • Theratogs Vest, $406, for a 1 yr. old boy from Queens, NY who suffers from multiple developmental problems
  • $1000 donation to the Ava Loren Barbarino Trust for a 6 month old girl with Charge Syndrome and Severe Immunodeficiency (Rest in Peace).
  • Custom Freedom Bicycle, $2343, for a 4 yr. old boy who suffers from CP from Atlantic Beach, NY.
  • $423.50 to Shooting Stars Gymnastics for 6 ½ yr. old Autistic boy from Hawthorne, NJ.
  • Easter gift of $2000 gift certificate to Babys R Us for a Staten Island family with newborn quintuplets
  • Easter gift of $1000 gift certificates to Old Navy, Modell’s and Macy’s for two Brooklyn children whose father was crushed to death in a work-related accident.
  • Two weeks, $1350 Hofstra University Summer Camp for a Lindenhurst boy with Aspergers, ODD, OCD, ADD.
